Diesel-powered cars must have a particulate filter in order to be able to drive legally in the low emission zones as of 1 October 2023.

The level of the penalty charge

For lorries and buses the penalty charge for driving illegally in a low emission zone is DKK 12,500. For vans the penalty charge is DKK 1,500. 

The Danish Environment Protection Agency is responsible for enforcing the low-emission zones
